We have five permanent teachers at the Crèche
and there are always three members of staff on duty for each
session, supported by two parents/caregivers. Our teaching
team is committed to ongoing professional development and
staff welcome the opportunity to discuss children's progress
with parents and caregivers. Our teachers treat all children
attending the Crèche with dignity and respect, and
use positive guidance to promote appropriate behaviour with
regard to each child's age and stage of development.
Eva Brengtsson
Hi
I'm Eva, the new Head Teacher. I started my teaching journey
in Sweden and completed my Early Childhood training in 1985.
I worked there for 5 years before my husband and I decided
to move overseas and arrived here in NZ. I gained a great
deal of experience in a variety of different Kindergartens
before I had my first son. I continued to work at Glenfield
and Highbury Community Creches while I was busy having my
further 2 boys. In 2004 we moved back to Sweden for 3.5 years
where I taught at a daycare centre. I returned to start at
Northcote Point Community Creche at the beginning of 2008.
I am very excited about taking on this new position as the
Head Teacher. I strongly believe that everybody who comes
to the creche should feel welcome and comfortable in our environment.
The children should feel a sense of belonging where they can
explore and try new activities, and where the children learn
through play. The creche should be a fun, happy and safe environment.
Cath Robertson
Hi,
my name is Catherine Robertson. I have two children of my
own, I have a son who has just turned four and a daughter
who is seventeen months. I began work at Northcote Point Community
Creche at the beginning of term 4 2008 and am enjoying getting
to know the children and their families. I have worked in
a number of different areas in my years of teaching in the
Early Childhood sector, under twos, over twos,
private daycares and public kindergartens. Each different
environment has added to my experiences and knowledge. I love
that each day working with children brings something different.
Barbara Lindsey
My
teaching career started many years ago in Primary area. After
raising my children I returned to the work force as a recruitment
consultant and spent several years enjoying this role. Six
years ago a niece and nephew came to stay with their 2 year
old daughter. This reminded me how much I enjoyed working
with young children. After doing extensive research my husband
and I bought 2 childcare centres. I returned to study a one
year graduate diploma in ECE. I have worked in both centres
for the past five years and thoroughly enjoyed the children/families/whanau.
It is a pleasure and a privilege to play a small part in the
early education of your children.

Ive
lived in Auckland all my life, I came to this creche when
I was a child then to Northcote kindy, primary, intermediate
and college. My Mum was the chair person of the committee
and later worked here as a teacher. I finished my degree at
AUT in June 2008, my final practicum was here at Northcote
Point creche and I was pleased to be asked to become a part
of the team. I am now working towards getting my teacher registration.
As well as working here at creche I work at lollipops playland
and do some nannying. I enjoy going to the gym, walking, yoga
and spending time with family and friends.

Our management committee is made up of teachers
and parents/caregivers.

Meetings are held once or twice per term
and we welcome anyone who wishes to help us. The committee
is responsible for:
- employing and supporting staff
- goal setting and strategic planning
- fundraising and financial management
- special events such as the Christmas parade and parent evenings
-ensuring mandatory requirements for operation are met
Around 80 families from all walks of life
use the Crèche. While the majority are from the local
area, children from as far as Albany and Ponsonby also attend.
The centre engenders a strong sense of community and pride
among the families who use it, typified by enthusiastic participation
in working bees to maintain and improve the facilities and
excellent support of fundraising events. The majority of children
go on to local kindergartens and primary schools, particularly
in Northcote and Birkenhead, and friendships among families
started at the Crèche often last well beyond these
early years.
